Langtang Helambu Gongala Pass

To cross from Langtang into Helambu, via the Ganja La pass, is a serious undertaking that requires good equipments and experienced local guides. The group members and their staffs should be fully self-sufficient as there will be no tea house facilities for three to four days. From the pass, one can enjoy the view of the valley and the view of Langtang Himal is particularly good. In the distance, you can see Shishapangma, the only 800 meters peak entirely in China (Tibet). After crossing the pass, we reach Tarkeghayang- the largest settlement of Tamangs in Helambu. Enroute, the trek passes through some beautiful forests and very interesting villages. As the journey progresses, you will also get to visit the homes of Brahmins, Tamangs and the Sherpa people of Nepal. The place has a scenic grandeur and pleasant climate in addition to a long history of Buddhism, culture and ancient tradition of Tamangs and Sherpas.

Drive by bus to Dhunche via Trishuli Bazaar. The duration of the drive is about 8 hours. Overnight- Dhunche.
Day 4 Dhunche – Bharku - Syabrubesi
From Dhunche, there is a decent to the Trishuli River, which can be reached within half an hour. From the river bed, there is a steep climb to Dovan from where a track to Gosainkunda leaves the main trail to Rasuwa Ghari and the Langtang valley. After a gentle climb, we reach the Gharku village. From Gharku (is it Gharku or Bharku- plz check), traversing up and down after crossing a suspension bridge over the Langtang river, the village of Syabrubesi is reached.
Day 5 Syabrubesi – Lama Hotel
Today, we hike along the Langtang Khola (river) and the path consists mainly of scrub oak. This is the bottom of the high rocky mountains. From Bamboo lodge, where we have lunch, the ascent continues to the steel suspension bridge at 2000m. We continue upwards alongside a series of waterfalls and finally we reach Rimche. From here, the trail descends gently towards the Lama Hotel (2380m) where we spend the night.
Day 6 Lama Hotel – Langtang Valley
The trail traverses up and down through the forest and Ghoratabela is reached within 3 hours. From here, a short climb of half an hour brings us to a pass to the right of which the Langtang valley begins.
Day 7 Langtang Valley – Kyangjing Gompa
From Langtang, there is a gentle ascent of 4 hrs to Kyangjing Gompa.
Day 8 Rest day at Kyangjing Gompa.
Day 9 Kyangjing Gompa – Ngenang
Because this is the first hike from Kyangjing Gompa, we will not hike for long on this day. Ngenang (4000m) is the only last good place to camp and we will camp over here.
Day 11 Ngenang – Keldang
We climb up a steep trail towards the pass at 5106m. After crossing the pass, the route descends to a small stream at 4400m. Following the stream for a few hours, we reach Keldang (4,280m) where we will stop to camp.
Day 12 Keldang – Dukpu
This is a very long walking day as we trek towards the summer settlement of Dukpu (4080m) where we stay for the night.
Day 13 Dukpu – Tarke Gyang
From Dukpu, the trail descends along the ridge and then climbs to the pass from where you can see the views of Dorje Lakpa and some of the peaks of the Khumbu region. We then descend through the Pine and Rhododendron forest and finally reach the Tarke Gyang village, which is the largest settlement of Tamangs in Helambu.
Day 14 Tarke Gyang – Sermathang
From Tarke Gyang, we will walk on a gradual flat trail towards the attractive village of Gangjwal (2500m) where we will stop for lunch. The trail that we follow after lunch is still quite easy and it continues at around the same altitude along the side of the ridge, crossing a number of streams in the heart of Helambu region. Then we reach the edge of the large village of Sermathang (2620m). There are some old gompas and the Langtang National Park office is also located here. We spend the night in Sermathang.
Day 15 Sermathang – Melamche Bazaar
From Sermathang, the trail follows the ridges and passes through chortens and drops to the tiny village of Kakani that is situated on the ridge. This is a wonderful place for splendid mountain views and we have our lunch over here. After Kakani, the trail traverses through several picturesque small villages and drops to Melamche Pul Bazaar. Melamche Bazaar has a collection of shops and teahouses and abundant lodges. We will stop and spend the night here.
