The Island Peak is named so because it resembles an island surrounded by a sea of ice. The peak that stands at a height of 6,189m is also known as the Imja Peak. The peak was first ascended in 1953 by a British expedition team. The summit of Imja Tse offers stunning views of the Nuptse, Lhotse, Lhotse Shar, Cho Polu, Makalu, Baruntse, Amadablam and Amphu peaks.
Our trek starts from Lukla as we follow the Dudh Koshi river and make our way to the villages of Namche, Tengboche, Dingboche and Lobuche. From Lobuche we trek to Gorak Shep. Gorak Shep, is the Base Camp of the historical 1953’ Everest Expedition and the site where Peace Nepal Treks had successfully organised the 2009’ Everest Cricket Match. Our ascension of the Kala Pathar (5,600m) in between our trek makes our journey even more fascinating and thrilling at the same time. A day’s stay at Gorak Shep around the base camp gives us ample photographic opportunities to capture the mesmerizing beauty of Mount Everest, the Khumbu Ice Fall and the Lhotse, Nuptse and Pumori peaks.
We make our return journey through Pheriche and Tengboche where the grand Tengboche monastery basks in the solitude of the beautifully scenic valley. Our trek leads us back to Lukla on the fourteenth day, where our flight to Kathmandu marks the end of the trek.

Nepal has four climatic seasons
* Spring : March-May
* Summer: June-August
* Autumn: September-November
* Winter: December-February.
There is no seasonal constraint on travelling in and through Nepal. Even in December and January, when the winter is at its severest, there are compensating bright sun and brilliant views. The monsoon season does affect the summer months, so be wary that trekking can be hazardous, although there are some regions that are actually best visited at this time – please see our list of treks for more information.
