The park was the royal hunting grounds until then and even now big games in the park are hunted by poachers although the Government of Nepal has declared the park as a conservation area and a protected region. The Chitwan National Park was declared as a World Heritage Site in 1984.
The Chitwan National Park is home to the nearly-extinct Royal Bengal Tigers, the one-horned rhinoceros, Gangetic Dolphins, Wild Elephants, Gharials (a species of crocodiles) and many other animals and birds.
Suggested Itinerary – Combine with rafting
For visitors having limited time, we recommend jungle safari combined with an overnight rafting trip down the Seti river. A 2-3 hour bus ride from Pokhara takes us to the starting point of the rafting trip. After camping over night in the banks of the Seti river we catch a bus to Chitwan the next day.
